Local King Cetshwayo surfer Ben Knoetze, (9) of Empangeni took part at the 2018 Sea Harvest Grommet Surfing Games in Port Elizabeth at the end of March. This was Ben's first national event and he flew the flag for our district proudly walking away with the Sportsmanship Award and scoring 850 points for his province as the sole competitor for King Cetshwayo District.

Over 120 girls and boys ranging from Under 8 to Under16 represented eight Districts at this annual event which is Surfing South Africa’s premier entry level inter-provincial tournament. Sponsorship from Sea Harvest, and generous support funding from Sport and Recreation South Africa and friendly hosting by the Nelson Mandela Bay Surfriders ensured that the 26th edition of the annual South Africa Grommet Surfing Games was a huge success.

Ben, together with his parents Anton & May, travelled from Richards Bay to represent King Cetshwayo District at the event. The young surfer gained a vast amount of experience from his trip to the event with his level of surfing going up dramatically having spent time in the water surfing different spots on the way to the event. His determination, friendliness and level of stoke was noticeable at the event and we can be proud of this up and coming sportsman.

The Heat Sheets with all the results and finalists plus all the other event results as well as a gallery of photos are posted on www.surfingsouthafrica.co.za
