New blood and a name change for Zululand Surfing

uThungulu Surfriding, formerly Zululand Surfriding Association, will from now on be known as King Cetshwayo Surfriders. The new name, falling in line with the name change of the district, was announced at the Annual General Meeting held at Alkantstrand on 11 June just before the trial contest. Also on the agenda included election of office bearers where Anton Knoetze remains as Chair with John Cawood coming in as Vice-Chair. Anton gave a run down of the current financial situation of the district and a recap of 2016 with thanks to all those involved in making it a success.

The trials kicked off after the AGM in very small but clean conditions next to the pier. New riders in the Junior Division did well surfing in their first ever surfing competition with the help of older guys joining them in their heats for advise on strategy and wave choice. It was a fun morning for all involved. There will be Junior surfing mini-competitions once a month on a Friday afternoon for all those interested at Alkantstrand.
