uThungulu Surfriding, the governing body for surfing in the King Cetswayo (Zululand) district have decided on their trial and AGM dates for the year.
Trial Dates and AGM
The trials will take place on 14 May, 28 May and 11 June, all Sundays, with the first two events taking place at Zinkwazi Beach and the final one at Alkantstrand, Richards Bay. The Annual General Meeting and prize giving will take place on the beach on the morning of 14 May before the first trial. Affiliated members will hereby be able to take part in voting in of new committee, adding items to be discussed and be involved in any major decisions. The trial events are surfing contests held to choose the teams for the various national champs held in 2017 with each surfer's best two results counting.
The first national event taking place is the Grommet Games taking place in Port Elizabeth from 17 to 21 March. There are no trials for this event being an introductory event for surfers under 12 years old. The association is hoping to send some riders to the Games from those that have been attending the Learn to Surf program. Next up is the South African Open and Masters Champs taking place at Nahoon Reef, East London from 7-13 August. This is a combined Open and Masters event as it was in 2015 in Richards Bay. This event is for riders in provincial teams from 18 and over (Open) and over 30 (Masters). The Billabong SA Junior Champs then takes place at Jeffreys Bay as always from 4 to 8 October. This is for surfers in the age groups U/18, U/16, U14 and U/12. uThungulu Surfriding is hoping to send full teams to these events in 2017. Please contact Anton on 083 651 7017 for any queries.
