The morning’s competition started out with the quarter finals of the O/55 Men before moving into the semi-finals of the Masters Divisions and the Open Mens. The surf was poor but the competitors still managed to post high scoring rides throughout the day allowing the finals to go ahead as scheduled.

In the first final of the day it was Dave Fish (BC) who took the win in the inaugural O/60 Men title. The O/55 final was won convincingly by four time ISA World Champion Chris Knutsen (Eth). In the O50 Division it was Dave Malherbe (BC) with the win over Marc Wright (Eth), Nick Pike (BC) and Peter Lawson (Pres), the latter having been on top form throughout the event winning all of his heats.

In the O/45 Division it was finally the turn of Rob Moore Boyle (Eth), who grew up surfing in Richards Bay, to win a title after many second place finishes in SA Champs history. Wayne Monk (BC) took out the O/40 Division and ended Team uThungulu’s chances of a Mens Champion in 2015 with Vince King ending in a very credible third place. In the last heat of the day it was Ethekwini Surfing’s Manfred Adrio who took the win and the title over defending champ Greg Emslie (BC), Justin Maisch (Ugu) and Llewellyn Whittaker (Pres).

The top score of the day, winning the Freedom Surf trophy, went to Lu Whittaker with a score of 9.67 for a semi-final screamer.

The Seventh and final day will start at 7am with the Open Women Semi-finals before moving on to the last 5 finals of the event namely the U/20 Boys, Open Mens, O/30 Women, U/20 Girls and finally the Open Women final. Silverware and titles and team awards will take place at the prize giving directly after the final heat at the Zululand Multi-Sports Club.
